Punta Gorda, FL- On October 22, 2022, at 6:02 am, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers stopped with a pedestrian walking on southbound Interstate 75, at mile marker 158, Charlotte County. Troopers identified the pedestrian as Anthony Moret, age 67, of Valdosta Georgia. A wants and warrant check revealed Moret had an active warrant for escape while serving life in prison without the possibility of parole for murder.
Moret was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Charlotte County Jail to await extradition back to Georgia.
The Georgia Department of Corrections said law enforcement across the state was looking for an inmate who was on the run.
