A Pennsylvania family’s resort stay ended in a double homicide investigation, and the case is raising difficult questions far beyond the Poconos. Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, is charged with two counts of criminal homicide in the stabbing deaths of her husband Charles and their three-year-old son at a Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun. According to investigators, Harrison called 911 while suicidal and was found with cuts to her wrists and neck. Her husband had multiple stab wounds, and the couple’s son had a single stab wound through the chest.
Two knives were recovered from the room, a large butcher knife and a smaller one with teal handles. Lodge staff told police the knives did not belong to the resort. The family had checked in on September 21 and extended their stay to an October 13 checkout. Autopsies were scheduled for later in the week, and the son has not been publicly identified.
Relatives told WPVI that Harrison never wanted to get pregnant and resented her son over the time she lost alone with her husband. Those statements have sparked conversation about parental mental health, family pressure, and domestic crisis. For Suncoast families who frequent resorts and parks with young kids, stories like this hit close to home.
What do you think needs to change so parents in crisis get help before it reaches this point?
