After nearly 90 days of rehabilitation, a bottlenose dolphin that was rescued by scientists at Mote was released yesterday.

The dolphin, nicknamed Salem, was found on Halloween suffering from a shark bite.

In the past three months, scientists treated the dolphin for anemia and low body weight, two effects caused by the shark bite. Salem also had a severe infection, stomach inflammation and developed pneumonia. She has also now been tagged and will be monitored by Mote scientists.

Salem was released yesterday 2 to 3 miles offshore from Egmont Key, an area where no red tide has been detected.
