Florida’s “Stand your Ground” law has been called unconstitutional by a circuit judge. Miami-Dade judge Milton Hirsch ruled the amendment to the law allowed state lawmakers to overstep their authority when the decision should have been made by the state supreme court. The law requires prosecutors to disprove a defendant’s self-defense at pre-trial. The Florida Supreme Court made a ruling two years ago to shift the burden of responsibility. Gov. Rick Scott signed the bill into law in June.
