A proposal that would allow a number of teachers to carry weapons has been changed in the Florida Senate. The Senate also passed a school security package that would also have gun restrictions attached to the bill. The bill now excludes anyone who is defined as a person who “exclusively performs” as a classroom teacher. The change will likely put Gov. Rick Scott at ease, as well as some Democrats. The vote was a narrow 20-18 and is headed to debate today in the Florida House. The carry bill would allow other staff, such as librarians and support staff to have weapons.
