A jury has convicted a man for murdering a German woman living in Sarasota in 2003.

John Mellquiest could receive life in prison at sentencing next month.

The sheriff’s office never found the body of 68-year-old Anneliese Schweickardt after investigating for a decade. However, her kitchen floor had large amounts of her blood under it, and a mop with the blood had Mellquiest’s fingerprints on it.

Schweickardt owned a home near University Parkway and Honore Avenue. She rented a room to Mellquiest.

She decided to evict him for drinking and other behavior issues.
