Marine Advisory: South Gulf Cove Lock Opening Scheduled to Boost Canal Water Levels
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL — In an effort to increase water levels within the canal system, Charlotte County officials have announced that the South Gulf Cove Lock will be opened daily from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning Monday, May 12 through Friday, May 16. Opening times are subject to change based on tidal conditions.
Boaters are advised to exercise extreme caution during this period, as strong currents are expected in the area. The lock will remain open to marine traffic; however, navigation is at your own risk. Vessel operators should ensure they maintain full control of their boats at all times.
Important Notes for Boaters:
-
Lock tenders will monitor VHF Radio Channel 72 for communication.
-
Lock tenders will not provide assistance or operational guidance.
-
Boaters should be fully prepared and capable of handling their vessels independently.
