Manatee School for the Arts in Bradenton went into lockdown Tuesday after a student allegedly made a threatening comment on social media. Local police located that student on campus during the lockdown, took them into custody, and removed them from school grounds. Principal Dr. Steve Marshall said the lockdown was ordered out of an abundance of caution, and by all accounts the day ended with no one hurt.
Marshall also made a point of crediting students who reported the threat, describing them as the eyes and ears of the campus and a vital front line in the school’s safety protocols, one of many layers of defense the school relies on. The school declined to release further details about the student or the investigation, citing Florida public records law, FERPA, and protections for juveniles.
