An 800-pound manatee was rescued from a drainage ditch off Summerlin Road and Brantley Road this morning. South Trail fire crews, Fort Myers police officers, Lee County deputies, and FWC officers worked to save the manatee. After about two hours, the manatee was taken out of the ditch and loaded into FWC’s marine mammal rescue truck. It will be transported to Orlando and treated there.
