Manatee County Commissioner Vanessa Baugh is leaving her seat in order to run for the Florida House. The 64-year old Baugh filed to run for the District 73 state House seat covering eastern Manatee County and part of eastern Sarasota County. She will face off against Sarasota attorney Tommy Gregory in the GOP primary, with the winner taking on the Democrat winner between Joe Gruters and Liv Coleman. Baugh leaves her seat halfway through her 4-year term, having served since 2012.
