Officials with the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department are warning beachgoers about Portuguese Man O’ Wars that are washing up on Suncoast beaches. ABC-7 says Sarasota County Lifeguards have reported that some Portuguese Man O’ Wars have washed up on the beaches of Casey, Siesta and Lido Key. The tentacles of the animals have potent stinging cells and can even sting when out of the water. Visitors are being urged to ask onsite lifeguards about current beach conditions and also check the beach warning flags at the lifeguard towers.
