51-year-old Modero Cruz of North Port has been booked into the Sarasota County Jail charged with the murder of his roommate 43-year-old Dylan James Baker of North Port. Cruz is facing second-degree murder charges. As of Sunday morning, he was in the Sarasota County Jail without bond. The shooting took place at the Grande Court Apartments on the 5000 block of Greenwood Avenue in North Port, Florida.
Authorities report that the two had been fighting before the shooting. Indications are that Cruz followed Baker into his room, and shot him in the abdomen. The victim was found dead on the floor evidentially trying to escape his assailant.
The investigation is on going.
