A 65-year-old man from Punta Gorda passed away on Sunday, 6 days after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Charlotte County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on February 13th when 22-year-old Jasmine Faith Haney, from Port Charlotte, made an illegal left turn at Edgewater Drive and Bayshore Road while attempting to enter a Marathon gas station parking lot.
The biker was travelling eastbound on the southside shoulder of Edgewater Drive when he collided with the front of Haney’s vehicle. Following the crash, Haney abandoned her car at the scene and fled. Police subsequently tracked down her vehicle and arrested her for leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury and driving without a valid license.
The accident is still under investigation.
