A jury left no doubt as to the future of a Florida man convicted last week of abduction, rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in 2013. The jury took only a few minutes to decide that 62-year-old Donald Smith should be put to death. If the decision of the jury would have included a single no vote for execution, Smith would have faced life in prison. During the sentencing phase, experts referred Smith as a psychopath. Smith was convicted in Jacksonville in the death of Cherish Perrywinkle, who was abducted from a Walmart after Smith befriended the girl’s mother.
