After fleeing from an attempted traffic stop, a man was later taken into custody on multiple drug-related charges and resisting arrest.
On Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at approximately 11:20pm, deputies observed Logan Robert Schaefer (06/02/96) driving a black Hyundai Sonata. Deputies confirmed that Schaefer’s driver’s license had expired in July 2019 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. At that time, Schaefer made an abrupt turn in an effort to evade the stop and was believed to be headed to a residence on Indiana Ave. – a location CCSO deputies know him to frequent.
When Schaefer arrived at the home, another deputy met him in the driveway. Schaefer then attempted to flee on foot and tripped. The deputy attempted to secure Schaefer, but was met with resistance. Even after being cuffed, Schaefer continued to resist. While searching Schaefer, deputies located marijuana, prompting deputies to confirm that Schaefer did not have a Medical Marijuana Card and placed him inside a patrol vehicle. Once inside the patrol vehicle, Schaefer began to kick the rear window.
Schaefer’s vehicle was towed from the scene and an inventory was conducted. On the front passenger seat, a larger Ziploc bag was located, containing 2 smaller Ziploc baggies inside. Both baggies contained 10 grams of a crystal-like substance which tested positive for Methamphetamine.
After delivering Schaefer to the Charlotte County Jail, the transporting deputy noticed two baggies matching those from Schaefer’s vehicle in the backseat of his patrol car. One of these baggies tested positive for Methamphetamine, while the other tested positive for cocaine. This led to the deputy reviewing the patrol vehicle’s video. In the video, Schaefer is seen rummaging in his buttocks while inside the jail sally port, then turn to his side and appear to toss something.
“There is no room in Charlotte County for illegal narcotics, and my deputies will continue to make arrests of those who choose to use or deal them here. Let me be clear: I want the people who are struggling with addiction to get clean, but if they don’t take that action… they are choosing to break the law and that means we will be coming for them.”

Logan R. Schaefer is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond on the following charges:
- Driving with License Expired
- Possession of Controlled Substance without Prescription (Methamphetamine)
- Possession of Controlled Substance without Prescription (Cocaine)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Tampering with Evidence
- Resisting Officer without Violence
- Introduction of Contraband into Jail Facility
