A 45-year-old Louisville man is dead and two men are facing charges after a case that has left a family searching for answers. Carl “Mikey” Michael Kinley was found Tuesday under a large cardboard box at Bethany Cemetery in southwest Louisville. Police say he walked into the cemetery alive on his own and died of blunt force trauma.
Investigators allege that Brad Brinkley, 40, drove his truck over the box, felt a bump, drove over it a second time, and then saw a hand. According to police, Brinkley later told cemetery groundskeeper Thomas Litsey, 60, what happened, and Litsey is accused of leaving Brinkley’s alleged involvement out of his report when the body was discovered. Both men appeared in court Friday. Brinkley faces multiple charges including reckless homicide and is being held on $250,000 bond, while Litsey’s bond is set at $50,000. Both are due back in court later this month.
Kinley’s brother, Charles Barbe, says the family is still asking why Mikey was inside that box at all. “I got a million questions,” he said. “Everybody loved him.” The case has sparked outrage across the community and hard questions about accountability.
