A longtime city council member is now running to be the next mayor of Venice.
76-year old Bob Daniels announced his candidacy late last month.
Even after nine years on the council, he can still run for mayor thanks to a change in the town charter that was made back in 2006.
Before those changes, all termed-out councilmen -like Daniels- had to wait a year before running for any other city elected office.
He said his top concern as mayor would be the environment and doing what’s needed to stem any future red tide outbreaks.
