US News has named Sarasota Memorial Hospital as the eighth-best acute health care facility in Florida as part of their annual “Best Hospitals” report. It was also listed as “top performing” in all nine common procedures the report takes into account- colon cancer surgery, lung cancer surgery, COPD, heart failure, heart bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and knee and hip replacements. It’s one of only 48 hospitals in the United States get the ‘top performing’ honor, and one of four in Florida. No other hospital in Southwest Florida made the ranking of 35 top hospitals in the state. Three were listed as high-performing in one or more treatments including Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte for heart failure.
