Scam Alert!

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and some of the surrounding agencies, have been receiving tips about another scam going around right now.
This scam involves the caller claiming to be with a law enforcement agency or law firm who claims to have a family member of yours in custody. They then inform you that the loved one will be released if you pay the bail amount in cash, and they will have a rideshare (such as Uber or Lyft) driver pick it up.
Law enforcement will not contact you to seek bail money for a loved one.
We encourage you to hang up on this scam call and contact your loved one directly to confirm they are not in custody.
Never give money to anyone you don’t know based on a phone call from someone you also don’t know.
