The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has charged a woman with animal cruelty.
Deputies have accused 20-year-old Alexandria Drew of Lehigh Acres of bringing a severely malnourished dog to a shelter and trying to pass it off as a stray.
They say Drew owned the dog.
Animal Services checked the microchip on the year-old border collie, and it identified Drew as the registered owner.
