A pair of Florida lawmakers want to up the smoking age to 21. Healthcare cost to Floridians are at the center of the push, as well as reducing the number of young smokers. There are bills in the Florida house and senate, one being sponsored by Senator David Simmons of Orlando. Florida would join five other states in the country in changing the legal age to buy cigarettes.
