According to the latest midweek report by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, red tide levels have once again dropped in Sarasota and Charlotte Counties.

Samples taken offshore this week showed just trace to very low amounts of the algae bloom.

What appeared to be some relief at the end of the year didn’t last, as the algae came back with a vengeance earlier this month.

The FWC is cautioning, though, that the lower levels are not an indication that the end of the bloom is near.
