Mosquito control crews in Sarasota County are working overtime after officials say more larvae have reached the flying stage.

Making matters worse is the nearly 14 inches of rain picked up at Sarasota International Airport in July- nearly double the normal amount of rainfall for the month.

State health officials issued warnings about mosquito-related illnesses such as such as West Nile virus last month. The Florida Department of Health said there have been 75 cases of dengue fever, 29 cases of Zika and five cases of chikungunya fever that were associated with travelers.
