The city reports now injuries, but the FAA has joined the investigation.
It has identified the plane as a two-seat light sport aircraft.
The airport director says the nose gear collapsed as the pilot tried to land it.
The plane stopped near the numbers of runway 23. The propeller, left main gear, and left wing tip all had damage.
The city has identified the pilot as a man from Venice. It says he had no injuries.
The plane remains in a maintenance hanger at Suncoast Aviation.
