In-N-Out Managers Now Average Over $200,000 a Year, Company Says

A spokesperson for In-N-Out confirmed this week that store managers at the burger chain now earn more than $200,000 a year on average. That’s a significant jump from 2018, when Forbes reported the figure at roughly $163,000. The company says the pay reflects a philosophy passed down from founders Harry and Esther Snyder: take care of your people, and they’ll take care of your customers.

What’s just as notable as the salary is how managers get there. Most start as hourly employees, learning the menu and the operation from the ground up, and the average manager stays with the company around 15 years. In an industry known for constant turnover, that kind of tenure is rare. In-N-Out credits its above-average wages with keeping employees at every level from walking out the door.

The chain is expanding into Arizona, Utah and Tennessee, so the pay model will get tested in new markets. For Suncoast listeners, it raises a familiar debate: what should a demanding restaurant job actually pay, and would you sign up for it? We want to hear from you. Would you take a fast-food management job for six figures if it meant starting at the register?
