If you’re heading home for the holidays you’ll have lots of company. Triple-A expects 48-point-seven million Americans to travel this Thanksgiving, one million more than last year. The increase is spurred by improvements in the economy, including rising wages, increased consumer spending and overall strength in consumer confidence, according to a report.
MEANEHILE
(RNN) – Americans will join family and friends for a day of thanks giving today. According to a recent survey, 71 percent of Americans say they’re most grateful for their family. That ranks above other Thanksgiving favorites like food, football and Black Friday shopping.
However, nearly a third of Americans surveyed say while they’re thankful for their families, they don’t want to talk politics with them. But even though politics may be a taboo topic, a quarter of people surveyed say they still expect the subject will come up during Thanksgiving gatherings.
AND….
Even though Americans may disagree on politics during the holiday, many agree on food. From turkey to stuffing, to mashed potatoes, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie, the average person will consume 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving, according to wallethub.com. Working off all those calories on a treadmill would take almost 11 hours, the website adds.
