There’s a big problem that contractors are facing in the recent local construction boom- a lack of workers. According to the Charlotte Desoto Building Industry Association, contractors requested 100 new home permits in consecutive months for the first time in more than 20 years. At the height of the recession in fiscal year 2009, only 232 permits were requested- in that entire 12-month span. Some contractors are now offering on-the-job training in order to fill open positions.
