An 18-year-old recent high school graduate, Kingston Maestas, is recovering after a horrifying Friday night in Louisville, Kentucky. Kingston was riding his pocket bike home from work around 11:30 p.m. when a vehicle struck him at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Valley Station Road. The driver fled the scene, leaving Kingston with a collapsed lung, ruptured artery, internal bleeding, a broken nose, and road rash.

While he lay in the road waiting for help, something even more unthinkable happened. Someone stole his bike and his phone. Witnesses stayed with him until emergency crews arrived, but Kingston’s family didn’t learn of the crash until hours later when they found his shoes and phone case near the scene. He had been admitted to a trauma center without any identification. His father, David Magalogo, says Kingston is now up and walking, calling his recovery “a miracle.”

Despite the pain and the betrayal, Magalogo says he forgives the driver. “I can’t hold that. Because if I hold that, it’ll ruin me,” he said. Louisville Metro Police have obtained surveillance footage and a vehicle description, and the investigation is ongoing. The family has also set up a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses.
