In a news release from the Office of the City Manager in Venice, it was reported that a small helicopter experienced a crash on Saturday morning near Venice Municipal Airport. The incident resulted in the pilot sustaining injuries and being transported to a nearby hospital, as stated by the public information officer, Lorraine Anderson. The helicopter collided with a fence located between the airport and the Venice Airport Festival Grounds.
The news release indicated that the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the helicopter, was transferred to a Venice area hospital via a medical helicopter. While the injuries were described as serious, they were not deemed life-threatening. Unfortunately, the release did not disclose the name of the hospital or the pilot involved.
Additionally, the release mentioned that the airport management was present at the scene and had initiated notifications to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Police investigators were also present to document the incident. At this time, no further details were available for release.
The news release concluded by stating that no events were scheduled to take place at the Airport Festival Grounds during the weekend.
