A $43M wastewater treatment plant for the West Villages is no longer in the planning stages.

Officials with the community and city of North Port broke ground on Wednesday. The plant is being paid for by the West Villages developer, in addition to the West Villages Improvement District.

It’s expected to take around 18 months to finish, at which point it will be turned over to the city. ABC-7 reports reclaimed water from the plant will be used for irrigation across West Villages for both commercial and residential properties.
