Florida Gov. Rick Scott has sent a letter to school superintendents and board members, discussing what he wants regarding school security upgrades. Scott said that by May 1, the Florida Department of Education will hire a director for its newly created Office of Safe Schools. A deadline of July 1st has been set for superintendents to designate a district school safety specialist. A team that is supposed to assess threats in each district is to be in place by Sept. 1.
