Governor Rick Scott appointed Lee County Undersheriff Carmine Marceno to replace retiring Sheriff Mike Scott. Mike Scott had recommended Marceno’s appointment to the governor. It was made official today, according to a spokesperson for the governor’s office. Marceno will serve as Lee County Sheriff until the next election in 2020, and he plans to run for the office in that race. Marceno has been with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office since 2013. “He’s been handling day-to-day operations for some time now,” Mike Scott said of Marceno, when he made the announcement that he was retiring.
