Gas prices continue to rise in Southwest Florida and now are 50 cents higher than a year ago.

According to AAA, the average price in the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice market went up 12 cents just last week to an average of $2.80 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

Analysts say prices are rocketing higher throughout the U.S. because of reductions in domestic supply and the oil market’s response to Donald Trump’s decision to leave the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Locally, prices range for $2.69 in Port Charlotte to $2.89 in Lake Suzy.
