Gas prices across Southwest Florida jumped another 8 cents over the week. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in the area was $2.59 on Monday, up from $2.51 a week ago and 34 cents higher than a year ago, according to AAA South.
Gas throughout Florida averaged nearly $2.61 per gallon on Monday, right on par with the U.S. average.
Locally, gas remains at a four-year high due to higher crude oil prices. Two years ago, drivers in the Suncoast were paying just $1.76 per gallon for regular unleaded. Locally, prices range from $2.49 in Port Charlotte to nearly $2.60 in Venice.
