The death of a Florida State student in the fall of 2017 prompted the campus to suspend activities by Greek organizations while changes were made. Now, FSU President John Thrasher has lifted the ban by fraternities and sororities to begin the execution of the changes that have been outlined. Andrew Coffey died Nov. 3rd, 2017 from alcohol poisoning after an off-campus fraternity initiation. Criminal charges were filed against a number of the fraternity members. An alcohol ban will remain in effect for fraternities, sororities and roughly 700 student organizations as the new policies are implemented.
