Sarasota County residents in North Sarasota have a convenient and completely free opportunity to clear out their garages, yards, and storage areas this Saturday, July 18. The community cleanup event runs from 8 a.m. to noon at Longwood Park, located at 6050 Longwood Run Blvd., and will accept yard waste, tree trimmings, appliances, household items, and up to four small vehicle tires per household. Whether you’re dealing with storm debris from the summer season or just spring-cleaning projects that got pushed to summer, this event eliminates the cost and hassle of hiring a junk removal service.
County officials remind residents of important restrictions before heading to the event. Hazardous materials including paint, oil, and gasoline will not be accepted, and electronics cannot be dropped off at this particular cleanup. This is an important safety and environmental measure, though the county does offer year-round disposal options for hazardous waste and electronics through Chemical Collection Centers and the Citizens’ Convenience Center. Previous similar events have proven popular, with a May cleanup in Englewood seeing residents dispose of over 9,300 pounds of waste in a single morning.
If you’ve been putting off yard maintenance or clearing out accumulated household items, this weekend provides the perfect opportunity. The event is open to North Sarasota County residents, and with a four-hour window on Saturday morning, there’s plenty of time to make a trip. What’s been sitting in your garage the longest? Tell us in the comments what you’re planning to get rid of this weekend.
