More than 1300 FPL workers were waiting at the Sarasota Fairgrounds yesterday, ready to be called into action to help out in the Panhandle.
Other utility workers that have come in from other parts of the southeast are using the fairgrounds as a staging area to head north- some will be headed to south Georgia and perhaps even to the Carolinas as Michael moves northeast.
Utilities throughout the region all participate in a mutual assistance program to go where they’re needed when storms hit.
