Former Sarasota Little League Treasurer Arrested for Alleged $200K Embezzlement
SARASOTA, Fla. — A former Sarasota Little League treasurer has been arrested and charged with grand theft after investigators say she stole more than $200,000 from the nonprofit youth organization.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said 35-year-old Ahnaysa Turner was taken into custody following an in-depth financial investigation.
According to an SCSO report, the president of Sarasota Little League (SLL) contacted deputies in October after growing suspicious that Turner, who had served on the association’s executive board and became treasurer in 2022, had been embezzling funds.
As treasurer, Turner was the sole authorized person responsible for managing SLL’s financial obligations and payments. The league president told investigators the concerns began after receiving multiple calls from vendors reporting delinquent accounts and unpaid services.
In August, the president requested access to the organization’s bank statements and financial records. However, Turner did not turn over the documents until October, the report said. Once reviewed, the records revealed significant financial discrepancies that prompted the sheriff’s office to launch a criminal investigation.
Turner is now facing charges of grand theft, and the case remains under investigation.
