February is typically the month where flu cases peak nationwide, which is bad news in an already horrible flu season. The bug remains on the rise nationally as well as here in southwest Florida. Sarasota Memorial Hospital has reported 273 cases just over the past three weeks. That’s compared to just 279 cases in the six weeks prior. The hospital reports nearly triple the number of positive flu cases as compared to 2016. Health officials are still urging people to get their flu shot, as the season technically runs through April.
