The fired Punta Gorda police officer who shot and killed an elderly woman during a citizens’ academy…now wants the police pension board to pay for his disability pay. Lee Coel still faces manslaughter charges in the shooting death of 73-year old Mary Knowlton- he was fired from the Punta Gorda force back in February. Coel’s lawyer this week told NBC-2 that the ex-officer ‘has been diagnosed with PTSD,’ and for that, he is claiming disability pay. That case and request now heads to the police pension board.
