The cities of North Port and Venice, as well as Sarasota County have all determined that fire conditions now exist due to the extreme drought and with that an increase in the threat of wildfire is present. The North Port Fire Chief, Venice Fire Chief and Sarasota County have put in place an outdoor burning ban within each city and the county limits. The Sarasota County area is 44% behind normal rainfall amounts for the year to date. The burn ban specifically prohibits any type of outdoor fire such as; campfires, land clearing burning, and pile burns.
