The four finalists in North Port’s search for their next police chief will be meeting the public Monday night at City Hall from 530-730. Current chief Kevin Vespia is retiring at the end of next month. The meet and greet will also be followed by a series of interviews and activities to learn more about the city. Then, all four will have their formal interview with North Port City Manager Peter Lear. Three of the four finalists are police officials from elsewhere in the state- Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Commander Gregory Purden, Coral Springs Deputy Chief Shawn Backer, and Brooksville Police Chief George Turner. The fourth, Michael Kopy, is an internal affairs staff inspector for the New York State Police.
