Charlotte County Emergency Management Update
As a result of the severe damage and historic flooding in Florida caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, FEMA extended the policy renewal deadline for certain National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders to prevent a lapse in NFIP flood coverage. Policyholders have until Dec. 10, 2024, to renew their policies, a significant extension from the standard 30-day renewal grace period.
The extension applies to policies with expiration dates beginning August 28, 2024. For policies that ended on August 28, 2024, the grace period, originally set to end on Sept. 26, 2024, now extends to Dec. 10, 2024. Policies expiring on Sept. 26, 2024, will have their grace period extended from Oct. 25, 2024, to Dec. 10, 2024. For those with an expiration date of Oct. 15, 2024, the grace period will run to Dec. 10, 2024. Policies ending on Nov. 1, 2024, will now have their grace period extended to Dec. 10, 2024. Lastly, policies expiring on November 15, 2024, will see their grace period continue until December 14, 2024.
Policyholders whose policy renewal date is within this range should contact their agent or insurance company.
