A fatal house fire in Punta Gorda is under investigation. Just before four o’clock Monday afternoon, Charlotte County Fire/EMS along with members of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 32-162 Oil Well Road. Upon arrival, they found the structure was fully involved with flames showing. A male subject was transported from the scene to a local medical facility and treated for burns to his arms and hands. Once the fire was extinguished, investigators later discovered the body of a still unidentified person under debris in a bedroom. That body was removed from the scene and transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office. The State Fire Marshall’s Office along with members of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit are jointly handling this investigation into the fire and the fatality.
