Back in March, an Englewood man caused a head-on, fatal collision in Port Charlotte. Authorities say that 40-year-old Ryan Boyd McConnell drove his Chevy Volt as fast as 100 miles an hour going the wrong way along Atwater Street and crashed into a minivan. The crash killed 26-year-old Victor Melnitchouk of Port Charlotte and seriously injured his wife, Alese Sadler. The Englewood Sun reports that McConnell has taken a plea deal. He gets 13 years in prison and his driver’s license is suspended for life. McConnell’s attorney told the Sun that his client entered the plea because–quote–“he didn’t want to put the family through any more torment and heartache.”
