A two-car crash in Charlotte County left a Port Charlotte woman dead and a young girl from North Port critically injured. The Florida Highway Patrol says that, on Sunday, 51-year-old Mary Sorrentino was northbound on Toleda Blade Boulevard when she turned left onto U.S. 41, directly in front of another vehicle. They collided, causing Sorrentino’s car to roll over and the other vehicle to go into a spin. A passenger in the other vehicle, 71-year-old Vicki Phillips, died from her injuries. Nine-year-old Lilly Sorrentino, a passenger in Mary Sorrentino’s car, was transported to Tampa General Hospital with critical injuries. Mary Sorrentino and the other driver, 73-year-old Henry Newton Phillips of Port Charlotte, sustained minor injuries.
