A situation involving undercover members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office resulted in a SWAT situation and the suspect being shot Tuesday afternoon. The drug buy was set for around 4pm near US-41 and Coconut Road. However, the suspect fled the scene in his car, nearly hitting a deputy after figuring out that the others involved may have been cops. Shots were fired by police before the suspect drove to a home on Burgundy Farms Road in Estero and that’s when the standoff began. There was a woman inside the home when the suspect arrived so she was considered a hostage for a brief period of time. The man gave himself up after SWAT and additional law enforcement arrived. No charges have been released and his identity is unknown at this time.
