An evacuation yesterday in Port Charlotte amounted to nothing more than an evacuation.

The sheriff’s office told people to avoid American Value Self Storage on Freedom Avenue because of what it called a potentially dangerous situation.

It called for EOD technicians after the discovery of what looked like explosives.

This briefly shut down roads and caused delays.

In the end, the sheriff’s office says improvised professional-grade fireworks had caused the trouble.

Deputies say they popped up in a storage bin that a previous tenant left behind.

WINK-TV reports someone recently auctioned them off, and the new owners called authorities after finding them.

Officials say stores do not normally sell these.
