An Englewood native who was believed to be the last surviving veteran to witness the attack on Wheeler Army Airfield in Pearl Harbor has died. 94-year old John Seelie passed away on Friday morning in Port Charlotte. Seelie was 18 when he enlisted in the Army. He had just reported for guard duty when when Japanese planes began bombing the adjacent airstrip, Wheeler Field, on Dec. 7, 1941, during the larger attack on Pearl Harbor. He is expected to be buried in his native Cleveland, OH.
