A Venice woman has been arrested after Sarasota County Sheriff’s Deputies took over 30 neglected animals from her home last month.

Back on June 28, county animal services reported seeing nearly three dozen exotic birds flying around 64-year old Elaine Wells’ home.

A number of the birds were underweight, lacked access to food or water, and showed signs of self-mutilation.

The investigation began when Wells was arrested two days prior on DUI charges, and asked animal services to care for her animals.
